Flanks Protocol

The flanks are one of the most challenging areas to treat in body treatments due to their tendency to accumulate fat and the resistance of this tissue to traditional methods like diet or exercise. This lateral torso area, commonly known as “love handles”, requires a specific approach that accounts for its anatomy and proximity to vital organs such as the kidneys.

With Ocarine® Dual, a dedicated protocol is used to treat the flanks safely. Clients are placed in a lateral position, and the area is divided into 10×10 quadrants to apply thermodynamic energy where it is most needed. The technology works directly on this hard-to-eliminate fat.

This protocol last up to 40 minutes, respecting organ safety, and is especially designed for the flanks, one of the highest-demand areas in aesthetic centres.

Real results of this Flanks protocol

The Flanks protocol step by step

Initial setup

  • Select the “Flanks” option
  • Apply the lumbar protocol at level 2
  • Set treatment time according to quadrants (maximum 40 minutes)
  • Choose the progressive initial intensity

Area preparation

  • Place the client in a stable lateral position
  • Mark areas with greatest fat accumulation
  • Divide the flank into 10×10 cm quadrants
  • Apply a specific conductive cream

Treatment Application

  • Press the play button to begin
  • Duration: 10 minutes per quadrant
  • Strict limit: Maximum of 40 minutes total per session
  • Monitor muscle insertions during application

Application technique

Movements

  • Slow and continuous movements in circles or figure-of-8
  • 10 minutes per quadrant
  • Never stop the movement to prevent overheating
  • Concentrate energy on areas with the most fat accumulation

Objectives

  • Maintain a controlled elevated temperature
  • Protect muscle insertions
  • Avoid discomfort due to proximity to sensitive structures
  • Respect the time limit to ensure organ safety

Ocarine® Deep System:
Perfect synergy for flanks

The flanks treatment reaches its full potential when combined with Ocarine® Deep System conductive creams. These formulations optimize energy penetration and ensure safe treatment in this sensitive area.

LipoDeep
Body Cream A

Especially indicated for the lipolytic phase in flanks with significant fat accumulation.

Its Fucus Vesiculosus extract stimulates local microcirculation and promotes the elimination of toxins, crucial in this area due to its tendency to retain fluids.

Recommended for the first phase of treatment, working with continuous movements to avoid overheating.

Requires mandatory drainage on the same day and follow-up with 2 weekly drainages afterwards.

FirmDeep
Body Cream B

For the final phase of the treatment when the goal is to firm the lateral contour.

Its active component Echinacea Angustifolia stimulates collagen synthesis while concentrating the thermal effect on superficial layers, ideal for tightening the skin in this sagging-prone area.

Especially effective on flanks with lower fat volume where the goal is to define the waist and improve the lateral contour.

FAQs

The flanks or “love handles” accumulate especially resistant fibrotic fat that respond poorly to conventional treatments such as diet or exercise. This lateral area of the torso accumulates dense and compact adipocytes that are also close to vital organs such as the kidneys, which requires a protocol with strict time limits and precise technique.

The flanks are located directly over the kidneys, the organs responsible for filtering the toxins mobilised during treatment. Exceeding 40 minutes could overload kidney function. Under no circumstances should this time limit be exceeded, regardless of the volume to be treated.

We recommend following these 4 steps before starting the treatment:

  1. Maintain a stable lateral position.
  2. Place a pillow between knees to stabilize the pelvis.
  3. The upper arm should be extended forward to expose the flank.
  4. Mark with a dermographic pencil the upper (floating rib) and lower (iliac crest) limits before starting.

The areas of greatest fat accumulation should be palpated and marked, generally 2-3 differentiated  “fat pockets”. The most resistant area is usually just above the iliac crest.

Also identify and mark the insertions of the oblique muscle where we will avoid excessive pressure.

When treating flanks we must know how to identify both areas:

  • Anterior flanks (toward abdomen): intensity 3-4 possible, wide circular movements.
  • Posterior flanks (toward back): maximum intensity 2-3, softer movements, constantly monitor the kidney area.

The transition between both areas must be gradual, never abrupt.

Due to the mobilisation of toxins near filtering organs, the following actions are recommended:

  • Hydration: 500ml of water immediately post-session, minimum of 3 litres in the following 24 hours.
  • Completely avoid alcohol for the following 48 hours.
  • Gentle lymphatic drainage toward inguinal area on same day.
  • Monitor urine: Increase hydration if dark or low volume.
  • Relative rest for 12 hours (no intense exercise).
